NEWS: Filming For The Last Block Of Outlander Season 2 is set to Begin In...

Written by: Anne Gavin

Outlander fans everywhere are breathing a collective sigh of relief that the end of Droughtlander is drawing nearer as the cast and crew get ready to film the final two episodes of the popular series. Executive Producer, Matt Roberts, posted on Twitter earlier this week that he was out scouting locations for the final block.

It looks like Matt found a good one, as sources in the historic town of Kilmarnock, just outside Glasgow, report activities around Dean Castle and Country Park indicate that Outlander filming is about to commence.  Earlier this week, parents of children who attend St. Andrews Primary School in East Ayrshire received a letter that said that the Car Park at St. Andrews will serve as staging area for a film crew and vehicles.  Sources also report that filming which will begin on December 4th and continue for approximately 10 days.  Dean Castle was formerly known as Kilmarnock Castle until approximately 1700.

Kilmarnock is known for many things, not the least of which is that it is the home of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky. Interestingly, Johnnie Walker is the most widely distributed brand of blended Scotch whisky in the world, sold in almost every country, with annual sales of over 130 million bottles. In addition, Kilmarnock is home to the only school besides Cambridge and Oxford, to have produced two Nobel prize winners – Alexander Flemming and John Boyd Orr. They both attended the Kilmarnock Academy. Dean Castle was home to the Boyd family for centuries and houses an impressive collection of medieval armor and musical instruments. And, one of Scotland’s most famous native sons, poet Robert Burns’, first book of poetry in the Scottish Dialect was printed and published in Kilmarnock and is known as the “Kilmarnock Edition.”

The weather in Scotland has been frightful of late. The crew had to suspend location filming this week due to Blizzard conditions as tweeted by Sam Heughan’s driver.

But, hopefully conditions will improve so that shooting for the final episodes can commence and this will bring us just a bit closer to the return of our beloved Jamie and Claire!
Props for Outlander filming

    1. Melinda Coombs -- Hmmmmm. Interesting theory. I am one who believes that Bree and Roger will make an appearance at the end of Season 2, BUT we do know that they don't necessarily shoot the episodes in sequential order. They may have already shot those scenes with Claire, Bree and Roger -- maybe when the boys were away in Germany at RingCon????? But, I like where you are going. You could be right. The gardens are vast at Dean Castle and I am sure there is a cemetery around there somewhere! Thanks for reading and commenting. Come back and see us on the Blog as we hope to have more exclusive coverage of the Kilmarnock filming as it gets underway!

    2. Awesome, can't wait to read it!! I always enjoy your posts!!

    3. Anne Gavin, doubt they filmed much of anything while the boys were away at Ringcon as Sam, Graham and Duncan didn't get to Germany until Saturday morning and were back in Scotland by Sunday night.

    4. Unknown -- Bree/Roger remains a mystery. Will they or won't they make an appearance in Season 2. We ALL want to know!! Thanks for keeping up with the convo. Your comments are appreciated!

Air date prediction April 14, to coincide with Colluden?
Block being shot....maybe when Jamie goes to the Bonnie Prince to see about his men having been jailed. (Kate)

    1. Katie Judge Longo -- my source and friend in Kilmarnock ventured out this morning in 30 mph gale force winds and rain to get those photos. What a trooper! Yes -- very good prediction on the premiere coinciding with anniversary of Culloden. Could be. I'm guessing we will hear soon about the premiere date. And, I like your theory about the possibility of scenes with the Bonnie Prince being shot at Dean Castle. You just might be right! Thanks for reading and commenting. Come back and see us on the Blog as we hope to have more exclusive coverage of the Kilmarnock filming as it gets underway!

    2. Culloden was on 16th April 1746, not 14th and in 2016, April 16th is a Saturday, so that would fit nicely, especially as it is the 270th anniversary. It would also mean that other series, such as Black Sails etc, would be coming to an end from a January start.

    3. Unknown -- YES! I think what you proffer makes a TON of sense! And, yes, if Black Sails starts in January it should end near beginning of April if it has between 10 and 12 episodes and Outlander should follow right after. I like this theory A LOT! Thanks for reading and commenting. Come back and see us again soon for more news and original content on the Blog!!!

    4. I,too, think it will be Sat April 16 to coincide with the anniversary of Culloden. What a great PR opportunity for Starz!!
And....don't shoot me.....but I don't think Roger and Bree are going to make an appearance in season 2. Just my humble opinion. I think they started with the story in Paris, with the loss of baby Faith in the middle and then move to Scotland for second half. Only 13 episodes--I don't think they're going to use the flashback/forward storyline. Since a season 3 has been in discussion--I'm thinking that will be--Jamie without Claire, Claire without/looking for Jamie, meet in the middle, and voyaging escapades to finish up.

    5. OquossocGal -- that's an interesting theory. I still stand by my prediction that Roger and Bree will make a CAMEO. It will be small...like a glimpse, but I think we'll see them at the end of Season 2. The waiting is going to KILL me, however. Thanks for reading and commenting. 7. I don't think that Brianna and Roger will appear until season 3. Remember Ron May not follow the same timeline as Diana.

    1. I'm with you. If they're filming the last block, it's way too late for casting news.

    2. Cheryl DeVos -- it's really hard to say at this point. They could have filmed the Bree/Roger stuff earlier as they often don't film in sequence. They just may be keeping a BIG secret. Or, they could potentially wrap and then come back a little later (they do sometimes come back and re-film parts) once they have Bree and Roger cast. They will likely be in post-production for several months and earliest likely premiere date is April...so they still have time. But, I agree -- it's a mystery! Thanks for reading and commenting. Please come back to the Blog again soon and check for more breaking news and original content!

  8. March 7 or March 14 is my guess for a S2 premiere date. That way, 13 episodes will run straight though and wrap during or just after the "all-important" May sweeps period. I put it in quotes because the era of year-round TV, streaming and other programming options have made he traditional may, November and February sweeps months nearly obsolete, especially if you're not on basic cable. But, that's my guess. They might not be done on post production with the last blocks of episodes, but they'll have enough done to roll the first free out while they really wrap.

Totally willing to be way off. But I like the notion of it only being 3 months off. Wishful thinking. ;)

  9. RDM said they would appear in Season 2. But this set really throws me off...

    1. Dahlia -- they often don't film in sequence. They could have already filmed scenes with Bree and Roger and are just keeping the casting on the down low. OR, they may come back after holiday break and film some additional scenes. Hard to say... until STARZ tells us! Thanks for reading and commenting. Come back and see us soon for more news and original content.

    2. Also, just because RDM says Bree and Roger would appear, he isn't specific about how or what age. We've already seen wee Roger in the S2 clip from SDCC and perhaps Bree appears as an infant? If they decide to give us the scenes after Claire returns to the stones and deals with Frank. Just a thought. Probably not likely, but possible?

    3. Susan -- I would say ANYTHING is possible given both Ron's expertise and passion for the series and his close relationship with Diana. Those two will work something out and I am certain it will be spectacular no matter what IT is. I have confidence and am eagerly looking forward with great anticipation. Thanks for reading and sharing your views. Much appreciated. Please come back again. We love hearing from our readers!

    1. jm gb -- Good guess! Makes sense since the casting of the Old Fox was just announced. I do think we'll see a Bree/Roger cameo in Season 2 albeit brief... Thanks for reading and commenting. Come back to the Blog again soon for more news and original content.

  16. no doubt they'll be filming sex scenes down at the dean castle, the amount of teens that have sexual intercourse down there is terrible, walking around acting hard with there bottles of wine and bags of cocaine, horrendous!!

  17. Unknown -- Oh, yikes!!! That is awful. Have to say, that's not something I think I would have ever thought about when I thought about historic Dean Castle. Hmmmm.
