Outlander Filming of Season 2 -- The End is Nigh...

Written by: Anne Gavin

Spoilers Galore in this Post!

Outlander's chattiest producer, Matt Roberts, has been quite forthcoming lately with regard to the rapidly approaching end to filming of Outlander Season 2.

Throughout the Christmas holidays, Roberts checked in several times on social media including this Tweet from the Writers Room in Los Angeles, where he and writer and co-executive producer Toni Graphia had been working on the final episode -- Episode 13.

Prior to the Christmas break, Roberts had indicated he was out scouting locations for February filming, even joking that weather, most definitely, would play a factor.

Since it appears that filming has been non-sequential, hard to know if Episode 13 will be the final scenes of "Dragonfly in Amber," the book upon which Season 2 is based, or something else. Book Readers find it particularly puzzling since we know Caitriona was filming at the Craig na Dun location several months ago.

However, it could be that the Stones' scene was filmed at this time because the weather was still relatively warm and before the harsh Scottish winter had set in.  For book readers, there are a lot more key scenes in those final pages of "Dragonfly" that make up the finale.  In addition, there is a wide-spread assumption that there are scenes to be filmed yet with Roger Wakefield and the yet-to-be-cast Brianna Randall.

I suppose we will know soon enough once awards season is over and the cast heads back to bonnie Scotland!  One thing I do know is that Roberts and Graphia are the dynamic duo.  Toni Graphia wrote several Season 1 episodes including "The Devil's Mark," "Rent," and "The Watch."  While Roberts penned "The Search," "The Reckoning" and "The Gathering."  But, there is one thing upon which all Outlander fans can agree is that the sooner they finish filming, the better!

What do you think about Matt Roberts and Toni Graphia writing Episode 13?  Are you ready for Droughtlander to end?

  1. When are we going to know about Bree?

  2. PEN -- GOOD QUESTION!!!!! They are really getting down to the wire, I think! Obviously, we want them to take as much time as they need to find the right actress, but hopefully, they are zeroing in on her, as we speak. I suppose any time between now and the Premiere date, they could still film bits and pieces but doesn't seem like that would be the way any one would want to see it go. Could get expensive with post production, etc. I guess we will have to wait and see!!! Thanks for reading and commenting. Come back again soon to the Blog for more original content and news!

  3. The show has got to come back on in April, May at the latest. Which means, we don't have too much longer to go! Hooray for that. And then just as soon as it starts, 13 weeks will go in no time and we'll back to #Droughtlander / #Withoutlander. LOL.

  4. Ashley Crawley -- bite your tongue! You must learn to live in the moment, my dear. And, here Droughtlander hasn't even ended, Season 2 has yet to begin and you're already talking about another Droughtlander. No Rhenish for YOU! :)

    1. Ha! Don't worry. I say it with every ounce of realism and contentment. Anything that's fun always goes too fast. And I'll giddily eat up every awaited minute.

  5. I'm starting to think that maybe Dragonfly (or at least part of it) will be in Season 3 (I would be shocked beyond measure if there were no S3). With the delay in finding someone to play Brianna and just the timing - although we are not privy to what's what in each episode - it does seem that if they are already filming Ep 13 - or at least at the script stage and unless Brianna is announced (of course they could be keeping it a secret) - it just might lead to a season end cliffhanger. Just some thoughts on it. :D

    1. Monique Huurman -- I think that is a good guess. But, I still think we will get a glimpse of Brianna and Roger at the very end of Season 2. They didn't find Cait until about a week out from scheduled start of filming for Season 1. It was down to the wire. So, it's still possible they will cast Bree in the next couple of weeks as they start to film Episodes 212 and 213. But, I saw even Diana is saying now that Premiere of Season 2 may be delayed for various reasons. I guess we just have to wait and see! Thanks for reading and commenting.
