YES, It's True! BRIANNA in the House!

Written by: Anne Gavin

*SPOILER ALERT*

It's been a long wait, Sassenachs, but looks like the torture has come to an end.  STARZ announced today that British actress Sophie Skelton will play Brianna Randall in its original and award winning series, "Outlander" set to Premiere Season 2 in April.  Click the jump to learn more about the long awaited casting.

Rumors flew last week on some Outlander Tumblr pages that Skelton has been spotted on set in Scotland.  However, with no official confirmation from STARZ/Sony or Outlander producers, we couldn't confirm.  However, this afternoon, all speculation ended.

PER STARZ/AMAZON Publicity statement

28th January 2016, LONDON – Amazon Prime Video has announced today Sophie Skelton (Foyle’s War) will play the role of Brianna in the new series of hit drama Outlander as the second season launches this April 2016.

Brianna is the striking daughter of the lead characters Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), who both reprise their roles in the new season.

Skelton (Doctors, Waterloo Road, Casualty) joins the previously announced Richard Rankin who will play Roger Wakefield, while returning actors include Tobias Menzies (Casino Royale), Graham McTavish (The Hobbit, Creed, Rambo), Gary Lewis (Gangs of New York, Filth), Duncan Lacroix (Vikings, Game of Thrones) and Rosie Day (The Seasoning House).

The new season begins as Claire and Jamie arrive in France determined to infiltrate the Jacobite rebellion and stop the Battle of Culloden. Thrown into the lavish world of French society, political gains prove tricky as they endeavour to alter the course of history, amid challenges weighing on the fabric of their relationship. Armed with knowledge of what lies ahead, Claire and Jamie must race to prevent a doomed Highland uprising, and the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.

New episodes of Outlander will launch exclusively in the UK on Amazon Prime Video this April 2016.

Want to see Sophie in action? Check out her DEMO REEL

Skelton has a significant number of acting credits mostly on UK television dramas including "Casualty", "So Awkward", and "Foyle's War."  She is set to play the lead role in an  action, adventure, fantasy series titled "Ren."  Hmmm.  That sounds familiar!

Here are some interesting facts about Sophie.  She is one of 3 children and her two brothers are named "Sam" and "Roger."  No, really?  OK.  That's weird.  Her parents are toy inventors.  Whoa. That's different!  And, after studying science, math and literature at University, she decided to turn down conventional job offers to pursue an acting career.  Sophie is 5 feet 8 inches tall (settle down, people!) and appears to be a natural brunette.

I am really impressed with Sophie's acting credentials for someone  relatively new to the business.  She is fresh, young and a face not overly familiar -- which seems to be the recipe for success for Outlander casting to date.

I am sure we will be learning MUCH, MUCH more about Sophie going forward, but it's such a relief to know that Brianna is alive and well and no doubt, stomping right into Season 2 -- at some point -- and beyond in the Series.  Breathe everyone.  Just BREATHE!

  14. I certainly hope Sophie read the books since season 2. She was horrible as Bree in that episode. I fervently hope for her to understand her character, and give an Outlander- worthy performance.
